Never floated before? Here’s what to expect.
From the moment you walk in to the moment you head home, we’ll guide you through every step.
No experience needed. Most first-timers feel a little unsure beforehand, and that’s completely normal.
Your first float in three simple steps
Your visit, step by step
- 1Before you arrive
Prepare lightly
Skip coffee and caffeine, avoid shaving or waxing that day, and eat a light meal about an hour ahead. No swimsuit needed.
- 2When you arrive
Get a brief orientation
We’ll welcome you, show you to your private room, explain how everything works, and answer any questions.
- 3Getting ready
Earplugs, shower, and settle in
Use the restroom, put in the earplugs we provide, and take a quick shower. Then step into the warm, salt-filled water.
- 4Your float
Lie back and let the water hold you
Take a moment to notice where the door is, then find a comfortable position. The first several minutes are often the busiest for your mind. Let your thoughts drift by without chasing them.
- 5After your float
Rinse off and ease back into your day
Shower off the salt with our shampoo and conditioner, and take your time. If you can, plan a little quiet time afterward instead of rushing straight back into your day.
Common first-float experiences
Every first float is a little different. Here’s what people often notice, and why there’s nothing to worry about.
“It took me a while to relax.”
That’s common. Floating is new, and your body may need time to trust the water. Many people find their second float feels even deeper.
“My mind kept racing.”
Without distractions, your thoughts can feel louder at first. Slow, easy breathing helps, and the chatter usually quiets as you settle.
“I noticed my heartbeat.”
As your body tunes out its surroundings, you may notice your pulse, your breathing, or drifting sensations. It’s a normal part of letting go.
“I fell asleep.”
Many people do. The salt keeps you floating comfortably, so it’s completely safe to drift off.
“I was nervous about the space.”
Our chambers are roomier than a bottom bunk bed, and you’re always in control of the door.
“I wasn’t sure how to lie.”
There’s no wrong way. Arms by your sides or above your head both work. Stretch or shift whenever you need to.
